XCOM 2

My final squad. Guy with his name hidden is modelled/named after someone I know. Actually had two more characters modelled/named after people I know survive all the way to the end, but they ended up kind of useless; One was a grenadier, whom I only used as backup when one of my good grenadiers was injured, and the other was a specialist, who was fucking useless. I never once got a hack to succeed, and NEVER got the bonus to increase the hacking stat to show up at all, ever. What the fuck?

(Eyepatch guy in green is the grenadier, black guy in yellow is the specialist.
As you may have guessed from the pink afro guy, I took a few creative liberties with the "modelling after" bits)

By the time psychic shit become an option to research I'd already assembled a decent team, and ended up just not researching it at all until near the very end, and never built the facility needed (all my slots were full by then), let alone recruit any psi-ops soldiers.

I found the last bits to be pretty disappointing. The network tower mission was a boring waste of time, and the final mission was just way too slow, way too long, and simply uninteresting. Ah well.

Statistics:

My computer did not meet the minimum requirements needed (in the graphics card department) but I still managed to run it relatively fine, albeit with shit graphics and at a slow framerate and horrible load times ("clear a stage in Fate/GO" level load times). But I didn't get any freezes, crashes, or game-breaking bugs; In fact the only real bug I encountered was a weird graphic one in the final area of the final mission.

Fate/Grand Order and Sennensensou Aigis

Been playing Fate/GO since about January, and Aigis for a bit over two years now, but while I've been posting stuff on Twitter sometimes I just realised I hadn't done so on the blog, so yeah, my stuff in both games. Haven't been playing Kankore much at all lately, didn't even clear much of the last event.

Fate/GO is a horrible, horrible game but the story does enough cool stuff on occasion enough to keep me interested. Helps that I actually registered for the game pretty early on (about half a year before I started playing) and so started off with a fuckton of free summoning stuff when I actually started, which got me Mordred right off the bat. Being able to "play" (amounting to jabbing at the screen while barely paying attention to) it while watching shows or whatever helps, since I suffer from this obsessive need to multitask at all times but don't want to play actual games (which I want to appreciate) while watching shows.

Meanwhile, Sennensensou Aigis is just fun. It's sort of a tower defence game with RPG elements, but you end up aiming for a perfect (three star) rating on each stage because obtaining one gets you one of the items needed for the gacha, and so each stage ultimately ends up as a puzzle tailored specifically for you (since everyone has different lineups of units). Despite being a free to play browser game it's actually a good game.

I also tried to play Suparobo X-Ω but it was so fucking garbage that I stopped after like fifteen minutes. This is coming from someone who
1) Loves Suparobo
2) Doesn't even like Type Moon all that much but is playing Fate/GO
So yeah, X-Ωis pretty fucking bad.

This and last week's loot (20th March 2016)

Haven't been buying much lately because of the upcoming rush of stuff (three games next week), and been trying to clear stuff on my backlog.

-Cleared XCOM 2. Will be doing another post on it.

-Finished ♯FE. Nothing I encountered after my last post on it changed my opinion on it in any way. It's a decent, polished, well-made, and objectively good, but ultimately forgettable RPG that suffers from some really stupid issues.

-Finished Tokyo Necro. It was okay. The worldbuilding was good enough, and some of the more ridiculously over the top parts of it fitted fine into the whole cyberpunk setting. The fights were fantastic too. What I didn't like, however, was how too much stuff was exclusive to each route, and how the final true route was thus unfulfilling because too much catharsis was left exclusive to other routes; It didn't help that the usual big meta twist made it so that the other routes clearly don't happen (also, said meta twist is way too fucking obvious this time, and isn't even that much of a twist). Also, too many revelations that ultimately don't matter that are, once again, relegated to other routes. Also Subcon didn't have enough screentime to feel like enough of a character which hurts the ending. The individual parts are great, but they just didn't fit together very well; The true route should have done that, but it failed at it horribly.

-Watched the Milky Holmes movie. It was Milky Holmes. Your mileage may vary on whether or not this is a good thing. Personally, the only bit that I actually found funny was Moriarty's reaction to Kokoro's IQ score.

-Cleared Shin SQ 1's classic mode (only the king of the world-tree, not the forest cell, yet)

-Been chipping away at Himawari which had (and as of this post, still has) the PC download version down to 500 yen to promote Island. This version comes with an unskippable PV of Island every time you boot up the game which is pretty fucking daft; Shin Masoukishin pulled the same thing with Anibuster in 1999 and has been ridiculed for seventeen years for it. Plus I already have Island pre-ordered. That aside, this is a horrendous port: They seem to have just ported the Vita version directly to the PC without making any changes at all to the interface. Which means no buttons to toggle full screen or skip or auto, a horrible config menu with giant text and the options split among several pages, and no quit button. Thankfully most of this isn't a problem for me because they did add in keyboard shortcuts, and I have gestures, but it's still hilarious to look at what a half-assed job they did. That being said, I've only gotten through the first chapter so far, but it's been pretty good. Hard to believe this was originally a doujin release; I've been through consumer release games which were far worsely written.

-Also been chipping away at Shin SQ 2, almost cleared the third area, not much to say here.

-Got Edmond Dantes in the current Fate/GO event from the free daily summon (third day). Hooray.
