This week's loot (1st April 2018)

Cleared Valkyria 4 and SRW X.

Valkyria 4 is basically just the first game again, except with more variety (but not TOO much like 2 and 3) in the gameplay and better writing. Straight up the best game in the series.

The gameplay in SRW X is a bit more fun than V's thanks to the new EX action and dogma stuff but the writing ultimately falls short. The characters that do get screentime are handled well enough but a lot are just in the background doing nothing for the whole game, the villains are terrible, and most of the series' stories are fumbled if even handled at all. Not bad, at least.

This and last week's loot (29th October 2017)

I've been busy (too busy to even really touch any of the games just released). Not much to say.

Watched the first Geass movie. It was okay.

This and last week's loot (5th March 2017)

Cleared SRW V. It was okay. Writing wasn't exceptionally bad, but isn't at all good. Can't help but feel that the Z series was written better, even with its horrible original enemies.

Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro

Cleared Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro last night. It was pretty good, and I liked how the ending took the time to show what happens to not the new characters but also the old ones, and was content with most of the game, but at no point did it particularly impress me. The majority of the game (up to the retaking of the capital) is dragged out for a bit too long, and the parts after that are too short, meaning that the stuff involving mankind and Witsarunemitea and Kuon and so on don't get enough focus. Wosis was also a terrible antagonist, they should've swapped his and Raikou's places.

Enjoyed Itsuwari no Kamen more, to be honest.

Ah well, still a pretty good game and a good sequel unlike Tears to Tiara 2 fuck that bullshit

This and last week's loot (25th September 2016)

Didn't update last week because I was busy with Persona 5. Cleared it and Utawarerumono. They were decent.

Also watched Kimi no Na wa. It's a decent movie, but does nothing new or original. I'm not perplexed by how popular it's turning out to be, though, as it's clearly made for the masses- sacrificing most of Shinkai's identity as a creator in the process- and does what it does really well. Also sekai-kei is pretty obscure and I'd imagine that most of the people seeing it are probably doing so for the first time. Literally babby's first sekai-kei.

All I have to say about Gods of Egypt is 俺は超合神だ!

This week's loot (10th July 2016)

Yeah this post is over half a week late, eh.

Watched Independence Day 2 and FFXV Kingsglaive. Enjoyed both. ID4 2 is a dumb action flick like expected but I felt that it still managed to fall short (there wasn't anything at all that felt like it could come anywhere close to being as iconic as the first movie's city destroyers and the sequences with the White House and such). Loved what they did with the queen though.

Kingsglaive was alright. It's clearly an inconsequential prequel movie that can be completely summed up as "the evil empire killed the king and wrecked the city but the princess escaped". But it was fun and had more action and explosions than most Hollywood action movies and that's saying something.

Cleared Otome Domain. It was really good, but nothing more. Didn't really feel like the previous stuff NYAON wrote, and lacked that something special that Moshiraba and DMF both had that was what made me a fan in the first place. Still really good, though.

So I waited a bit on Shin Hayarigami 2 but the reviews looked good and I got it. Almost cleared, and aside from one chapter (4) they did deliver on their promise to bring back the old series- And more, because old characters are mentioned (and one shows up), the main characters turn out to be literal successors to the old series' protagonist, and the overarching plot from the old series that I thought was never going to be completed is actually continuing (the secret organisation that was behind stuff in the old series actually shows up in the main story for one thing). Looking forward to more of this (though I'm not sure about the stupid alien stuff).
